Portland's Digital Journalism Camp, an event for reporters, editors, bloggers and broadcasters from all media interested in online reporting, has a new ticket price of free. And the new venue might surprise you: it's at The Oregonian. If that seems ironic, event organizer Abraham Hyatt says, "It was traditional newspapers that first taught us what quality journalism was and could be. What better place than that to sit down and perfect some of the next major steps in a digital future."
From an earlier statement:
What’s digital journalism? This is my definition: It’s where traditional print and broadcast journalism, blogging and web-based innovation meet. This is not some far-off future for the industry. It’s happening right now, all around us. And reporters, bloggers, editors, and broadcasters have a lot they can learn from each other.
I want us to shut up about about the death of newspapers and start talking about how we, as journalists, are innovating right now — what’s working, what’s not, and how we can get better at what we do.
The Digital Journalism Camp will be held Saturday, August 1 from 9:30am to 6:00pm at The Oregonian, 1320 SE Broadway in Portland. Sign up here. Space is limited.
