First on OMC: KATU's Brian Barker Becomes PIO for TVF&R

Brian Barker, TVF&ROMC has learned that KATU's Brian Barker will become the new public information officer for Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. Congratulations, Brian!

One observer notes that the 8am to 4:30pm hours, with a five-week on-call rotation, could be an especially nice change of pace given Brian's new baby at home. And we hear Brian wasn't the only TV talent vying for the job. You can see the original job listing here.

Brian is an Edward R. Murrow award-winning reporter who has covered the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the war-torn Balkans, and the most recent eruption of Mount St. Helens. He has previously worked for KRQE Albuquerque and KOAA Colorado Springs.

TVF&R is the fire department for approximately 440,000 citizens of Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties.

Brian Barker

He was a great reporter....I'm not surprised that KATU lost another top notch employee...first Rod Hill....then Brian...
I'm glad for Brian and his family that it came together for him.
I hope Rod finds the right opportunity here in Portland .Joe English was doing a super job at the evening position ....Dave has some big shoes to fill...have never been a fan!!! I may move on also to another channel for my news and weather info!!!We'll see only 2/nights and am not impressed.
