KUFO refueled by mothership in on-air, online stunt

"Hello, people of Portland. This is the mothership. The beast must be fed."

KUFO stunting

That's the message from KUFO (101.1), currently engaged in stunting, a common radio tactic for bringing attention to a change by airing unusual programming. The act began one day after the Portland rock station canceled its morning and afternoon shows, The Rick Emerson Show and Cort and Fatboy.

On the air, a computerized "mothership refueling" countdown is interspersed with random pop culture quotes, including lyrics popularized by artists as diverse as Nat King Cole, Garth Brooks and The Beatles. Other random phrases include "KUFO's mothership has arrived" and "KUFO's future is almost here."

On the station's website, an approximately 90-second video could be mistaken for the trailer of an alien invasion thriller. A transcript:

Announcer: It's going to be quick. It's going to be clean. Most of all, it's going to be loud.

Computer: It is not our intention to harm you. We come in peace.

Announcer: Everyone must prepare for it.

Reporter: The world as we know it is about to change.

Announcer: You are the only ones who can help us.

Computer: Hello, people of Portland. This is the mothership. It is not our intention to harm you. We come in peace.

Announcer: The mothership must refuel.

Computer: Adjust your frequency to 101 for refueling updates.

Announcer: Deployment is mandatory.

Computer: Hello, people of Portland. This is the mothership. The beast must be fed.

The video includes shaky shots of Portland and dramatic sounds, and ends by zooming out to a spacecraft branded "RADIO 101 FM." Unlike with the on-air stunting, no mention of the KUFO calls is included in the video, although the page is titled "KUFO - The Beast Must Be Fed."

The website also features a countdown clock synchronized with the one on-air. It's set to expire Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 am.

UPDATE (10/26, 5:46pm): Read the first full interview with Cort and Fatboy since they were fired, and how the changes at the station are designed to "put hair back on KUFO's chest."

The cut-together

The cut-together stock-footage (with likely copyright-infringing CG space ship at the end) with the Apple Macintosh synthesized voice shows how pathetic and desperate the station is. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that going the route of the lowest common denominator with a racist, juvenile, sophomoric, offensively stupid and brain-numbing fratfest "I wanna be a rock and roller, but I'm just a DJ instead" line-up that they're clearly aiming for this coming week will pay off for them. But a lot of things in life pay off if you're willing to sell your soul for it. And that's what KUFO already did by ditching the best group of on air talent around (C&FB and the Rick Emerson Show).

You could get decent ratings with a television show that's just full of people getting hit in the nuts, but at the end of the day, you have to live with yourself for contributing nothing more to the world with your time alive than nutshots. KUFO is aiming for the aural version of nutshots.

This "mothership refueling"

This "mothership refueling" [?] is like they asked themselves, "How can we piss off our listeners even more than we did by firing RES & C+F? How can we make them go beyond just taking us off their presets? How can we make them inflict violence upon their radios, denying us listeners to all of our stations? Let's see what kind of torture Microsoft Windows XP can inflict."

I'm done with radio.

Done.

The only reason I listened to local radio at all, was cort and fatboy. I have satellite radio in my car, but never persued getting a portable sirius radio, because I enjoyed cort and fatboy (even though the commercials annoyed me, and the stations playlist appeared to consist of only 20 songs.).

KUFO is dead to me.

Your rating: None

That's pretty much the joke, isn't it?

"the stations playlist appeared to consist of only 20 songs"

Though I've never performed an actual study, I'm fairly certain that KUFO had more commercials in rotation than it ever had songs.

"It is not our intention to harm you."

The damage is already done.
Watching you throw away the likes of Cort, Bobby, Rick, Sarah and Tim not only harms the future of this station, but Portland radio itself.
And this little video clip isn't going to help your cause.
Truth is, Alpha Broadcasting, we are watching YOU.
And we've already heard rumors about your "new" on-air talents that won't make their debut into this market any easier.
Yes, now indeed, 'the beast must be fed.'

KUFO is changing big time!!!

I do believe that KUFO will change formats this week!

Your rating: None

Depends on your definition of 'format.'

According to WWeek,

“What I can tell you is that the station is a rock station and will continue to be a rock station,” [KUFO’s Director of Marketing & Promotion Susan] Reynolds says.
Whether that will be ditching the hard rock or what remains to be seen though.

Changing big time? Really?

Changing big time? Really? Have you been following what's going on? They're pulling in a douche bag talk show guy from a san diego classic rock station as the programming director (a guy who does prank phone calls and dirty jokes) and a guy from Seattle from a rock station whose show is just a bunch of offensively stupid juvenile idiocy that only mouth breathing retards will adore. Then again, that's clearly the target demographic KUFO is aiming for.

I for one am happy

KUFO was the last station on my preset. I want a real rock station. In the late 90s KNRK and KUFO really battled it out both playing current (at the time) Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, Incubus, etc. Then it changed, NRK changed formats to some sort of adult easy listening (They were playing Peter Cetera the other day) and KUFO went all butt rock all the time. I want modern rock and nobody really does that well around here.

Honestly I used to listen to Marconi but I was listening when he played that David Pearl beheading clip and it jacked me up for a day or so. They fired him for that but I never really regularly listened to the station again.

I'm excited for something new. Maybe I'll hate it when it gets here but maybe I won't. I know I don't like the old format so it can only get better.

Good luck station formerly known as KUFO. Your stunt worked. I'm waiting to see what the new format will be. Only time will tell if I listen after I find out.

I can't imagine anyone actually listens to the radio for music, anyway. It's 2009. You can't get all of the same radio personalities on the internet that you can on radio (well, now you can't get them on radio *EITHER*) but you can get all the music that you can get on the radio . . . . on the internet. And more. And better. And uncensored. And on demand. And often both cheap/free and legal.

Poor Rick and Crew

I feel horrible for Rick Emerson and the crew. They have consistently had one of the best daytime programs for over 10 years. They have been tossed around throughout the Portland dial and have always seemed to land on their feet. Then they made it to FM and morning drive. I was cautiously pleased, knowing how tough it might be for them to keep that slot that had been held by the likes of Stern and Carolla. Too bad to hear that they once again have to find a new home. Hopefully Lara doesn't tell Rick that its time to move.

Your rating: None

And they wonder why radio is dying ...

There are only two radio format which I enjoy.

(1) "Talk Radio." NPR/OPB. Informative programming which is entertaining. No music.
(2) RE/C&FB. A blend of talk and music.

If I wanted to listen to music, I'm going to plug in my iPod. The one thing that iPod doesn't do is provide topical commentary. Radio doesn't do "new" music with the exception of well-publicized artists (which I've already gotten on the ol' iPod). NPR is the serious new station; RE (mornings) and C&FB (afternoons) were the entertainment. Sadly those are gone ... guess I'll be listening to their podcasts on my iPod.

KUFO was one of two radio stations I actually listened to ... and now KUFO appears to be going off the dial.

Sure, its really cheap to produce those "Charlie" Clear Channel stations -- no on-air talent, just plug a playlist with bumps and let it run. No offense, no unpredictability ... no listeners.

Another one bites the dust!

The last thing Portland needs is another pop rock station. I listen to KGON for Mark and Brian, but the rest of the days was KUFO, as I cant stand classic rock all day. KUFO was a front runner in Portland radio when it came on the air. It has changed over the years.. at first no one would play Metallica, they started to play it and the rest was history. I found the Rick Emerson show to be a little better than some morning shows in the Portland air waves that wasn't syndicated from another outside source. Cort and Fatboy shows were a little immature... but still entertaining enough to keep me listening to them.

I fear the new format will be what big business wants... something that caters to a bigger listening audience. You know the ones that have money for better commercials and this leads to improving profits. The music will probably be rock, but what kind of rock? If it goes to what I call douche music...butt rock, cheese rock, hair band rock, poser rock.. I will remove it from my listening channel line up and get sat radio.

Glad They are done-waiting for improvement

Don't get me wrong. I hate to see anyone out of work. Specially during these times. But I have HATED Portland Radio for years now!.
I CANNOT wait to finally hear good music and DJs that actually have something worth talking about, (at minimal intervals and about the music please). I don't want to hear your political BS, your liberal/conservative crap, keep the station about the music not your opinion outside of that. If I wanted that I would listen to AM talk radio. I don't want to hear some stupid gimmick set to bring in more listeners and annoy the rest of normal humanity and I don't care about the opinions of said listeners either. Play some dang music already!!
And all of you out there whining and complaining about the change going on at KUFO need to think about the possibility of better to come. Maybe whoever comes up next can take some pointers from Seattle's The End or San Diego's Rock 105.3. Maybe we won't have such annoying hot winded self richeous DJs anymore. Maybe we will be able to listen to the radio and actually hear....MUSIC. weird idea, I know. But maybe. Just maybe...it will work.
When you travel enough you know when you are listening to radio that's about the music and not the policitcal BS behind the scenes. Hopefully there's a light at the end of this tunnel and it leads to more music, good playlists and less talk.

What station were you

What station were you listening to? The Rick Emerson Show and Cort and Fatboy Show were not political shows. The RES especially was not a political show, though they did have politics as part of the news for obvious reasons. And it's amusing that you cry about "boo hoo, it's all liberal", because anyone who has listened for more than a day (and I've listened to them for most of a decade) has heard them equally and quite fairly rail against the morons in all political sides and spectrums. For every idiot that whines about "Rick Emerson is a big liberal that is unfair to conservatives" there is an idiot that whines about "Rick Emerson is a big conservative that is unfair to liberals!".

Why? Because he makes fun of them both and his show IS NOT POLITICAL unless you consider star wars, zombies, video games, movies, and obscure crazy news "political". The RES is a TALK SHOW. Rick Emerson isn't a DJ. And it wasn't a music show. It's not a music show. KUFO shoved music into his show, which ruined it. There should have been NO music.

And do you really think KUFO is going to put decent music and talent on? They got rid of all the decent talent. You're going to get the average idiot mouth breather DJ and that's it. And what are you doing looking toward the radio for music, anyway? Have you ever heard of the internet?

Your comments about the content make it sounds like you have never listened to five minutes of it and don't have the slightest clue what you're actually talking about.

Portland radio sucks

Portland radio has always sucked, and will continue to suck as long as it has half assed stations like this. Portland already has rock, easy listening, talk and all that stuff. What it really needs is a full on hard rock/ metal station. I mean REAL hard rock and metal, trust me the listeners are out there and they are being overlooked bigtime, if we had a station to call our own if you will, it could be a very good thing.

Your rating: None

Yes, because without a radio station playing hard metal, how will you ever get to listen to hard metal? If only there was some sort of device that let you listen to music anywhere and everywhere on demand catering to your exact taste at the moment and was at worst cheap and at best completely free. I liked Tara's show, she's smart and she's got a hot voice. KUFO would be smart to hire her. She'd sound right with those other guys filling out the other time slots.

Let Emerson do his show the way it's supposed to be in the afternoon, let Marconi do a rockin morning show. That [?] they have on NRK, the cat guy? He sucks so bad. And the Robot Gustav, no thanks.

I think Marconi had it right (late 90s, on 94.7 before they also started to suck awrze) when he said: "F U F O, boy!!"
Nuff said.

Of course a few years later he sold out and started working for KUFO. I never heard how or why he was canceled - but i think that's the only show I've ever wanted to listen to on this station.

Maybe they'll suck a bit less -- once their "mother ship" is refueled? Maybe not. Whatever.

Anyone see an ARG in this?

"The Beast must be fed"
......
Sounds to me like an Alternate Reality Game (ARG), but I can't find any more information online. Anyone else suspect this? The online video clip says things like "Everyone must prepare for it", "You are the only ones who can help us", and "Deployment is mandatory". The radio station itself has Microsoft voice emulator Sam telling us to "stay tuned for updates", and similar messages. This all looks to me (as well as this guy) like a starting lead to a marketing ARG, like The Beast, or I Love Bees or other similar ARGs in the past.

Some topics were ok but most were pretty lame. I guess I miss the days of Dogface and Porkchop. Where music was music and the talking was about the music. Are the concerns warranted? Premature?.....Seems more that they're right on time. Reports fearing any new KUFO radio team talent will be juvenile, racist, sophomoric and all other kinds of obnoxious only makes me glad I'm already familiar with internet radio options for music and talk shows. And thank god for mp3 files and the like, as well. Because ''gutter chat,' is it popular? We've heard it on broadcasts, over the years - always accidentally while tuned in to stations when on vacation. But horrific to imagine the sale of it for public consumption is thought to be a good idea by the corporate-radio show-powers-that be...really? And if there turns out to be an audience for it?..Yikes!!

Always loved the AM/FM - listed daily for years, in all the metro areas where we've lived. But barely listen to it anymore, compared to times past.....Now Cort and Fatboy are gone? Well, we'll be forever grateful to them for bringing the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica to the Bagdad Theater. That was too many kinds of awesome to mention. But if they're out of the KUFO picture then what's left of my own local FM radio loyalty (credit for all hours) goes to Mitch, Daria & Ted over @ 105.1 The Buzz (oh yes, OPB will still get a listen sometimes). They're one of the great remaining afternoon crew shows. Even when the nation's urban top 40 choices aren't always fabulous, The Buzz team is always on point....the world is changing, the awareness of humanity is changing.....too bad super-commercial corporate television and radio are both so far behind.

a lack of Rick Emerson

I think this sucks if Rick Emerson is going to be gone from the station. Honestly. It is much less expensive to have local talent than to beam in a signal from out of state. Rick was the only reason I listened to KUFO.

The only format change I would approve of is that they allow Rick to have his regular format show again. That way he could go off on the many tangents I remember. That is what kept me listening. Not the crappy music I am supposed to be inspired to buy.

Hopeful

I, for one, have been sick of KUFO's format for quite some time.

The Rick Emerson show was a colossal waste of time with a radio DJ that was OBVIOUSLY out of touch with pop culture and current events. As for the Cort and Fat Boy show... I dont even know where to start because of how awful the show was. I would rather listen to the traffic and the wind coming into my car than listen to those two.

I am glad that these shows were canceled and I am hopeful that this will be a format change for the better. Maybe a REAL modern rock station for normal people... not this retarded, washed up, college frat boy, recycled music crap that we've been subjected to for the past decade.

Heres hoping...

Radio is for information and entertainment. I am constantly hitting my presets looking for something better. I can't imagine KUFO will stay on my number 4 preset. Without Rick, It will probably get bumped to preset 10, just after ROSY (or is it THE BUZZ? Thing change so often, I'm losing track.).

I'm glad to hear that big changes in radio programming can still cause an uproar. It is an important media.

I am not in any demographic, I enjoy it all. I just wish station owners would stop trying to guess what most people want to hear. This constant changing is driving us away.

Alpha takes the plunge

It looks like Ricker is coming to town. I don't think any show like his has ever been thrown into morning drive and for that you have to give Alpha some props. Ricker is beyond Howard Stern. This jock doesn't just salivate about whores he actually bangs them. Mental patients are key props on his show. The guy actually lives the lifestyle that KUFO music fans dream about. He's not for everyone but he is talented and funny. And he's basically a douche bag.

There's only a few stations in the country who'd even take the chance of putting his show on the air, let alone morning drive. He'll make some waves that's for sure and fans of Ric, Cort and Fatboy will hate him but KUFO music fans will embrace his nuttiness eventually.

Starting Wednesday no one will confuse 101.1 with KINK, KGON, KPOJ or KNRK.
It's going in a complete different direction as a hard rock station. As a former resident I'll be looking to see how this all pans out in PDX because banking on Ricker for mornings at KUFO is an experiment. And I'm not a passionate listener of Ricker but once in awhile I'd tune into his show and just laugh my ass off. He's a train wreck.

Just A Stupid Stunt

I personally think this is just some bs way for the radio station to get more publicity. A way to get people to wonder what the heck is going on and ask questions. i myself personally think it seems to be working. A prime example is this forum right here. A bunch of people that don't know exactly what's going to happen but have an excuse to rant and rave and be upset about something cuz alot of people are afraid of a dramatic change. If you look at statistics, or personal opinions, or just random crap, i think you might find that it's all one huge corporate stunt to get more popularity, find people's opinions on what they want done, then do it so they can rise up on the charts and make more money. In today's economy, everyone is struggling looking for a way or excuse to have some spare change in their pockets. So if this is their sad pathetic attempt to run around and read forums, articles, and listen to people talk about what's happening so they can find a way to give the public something that they wanna hear as a way to stay on the air, let them try.

This spells the end for portland radio ...

KUFO has been the only radio station I really listen to for years (every since the demise of KRCK soooo long ago - betchya don't remember that...) simply because they've been the only local station to play anything worth a rip. That's not to say that I like the onslaught of commercial rock they play - but hey, what else is there that can survive in the mainstream ... they hit a balance between rocking and being commercial. They kinda _had_ to in order to play that type of music and survive in the market. But at least I could tune in and hear some good stuff on occasion (I actually heard them play some DK not too long ago!). So, if they're changing formats, then there is nothing left of rock on radio in portland. Real rock (metal, thrash, industrial, punk, grindcore, etc...) has been burried in the stank onslaught of commercialism, top 40 and hip-hop crap! Real rock is only surviving in the smallest sectors which are inaccessible to us in portland in a radio format. Sad as it is, it's time to just go digital and give up the airwaves. KUFO is the end of radio. Shame they have no scruples. Good luck Rick, Cort and FB wherever you go - and to HELL with KUFO! Oh, and the publicity stunt is shamelss crap! The genuis behind that definitely needs to be FIRED for general stupidity and malfesance! LAME!

Absolutely

I was distraught when KRCK went off the air, I was left with KUFO, they were ok, but give me metal, give me something to listen to, that I want to hear, there are plenty of christian, country, pop, rap, oldie, and other stations out there, have we the listeners been forgotten?

Let's be realistic....

What is radio? Listener's choice is what it should be, if you want talk, tune it in, if you want blues, tune it in, my point is, I don't want all morning to be some babbling Bozo that may or may not share my views, nearly every station in this area now has some dingbat duo, or more, that spews irrelevant and/or worthless nonsense until lunchtime, I don't have time to mess with my radio at work, I want to turn it on and work, if I wanted to listen to the rantings of random people who I wouldn't otherwise listen to, I'd go have coffee with some of the liberals in the office.

Give me music, if I want news, that's what the am band is for...

Just my .02

The Rick Emerson Show is not

The Rick Emerson Show is not about news or politics or ranting about politics. If you have ever listened, it's a geek and pop culture show. The people who listen to the Rick Emerson Show don't give a damn about the music on KUFO. We were dragged along because CBS took the show off of AM and jammed it on the FM spectrum and then shoved it full of a bunch of dumb ass music that nobody wants to listen to. If I wanted to listen to a bunch of crappy music, I don't need to go to the radio to do that.

Also, Rick Emerson and C&FB are both very popular shows. They weren't axed because they were not popular. They were axed because the entire station is changing format and all of the on air talent was flushed out along with a lot of the off-air people. It's like saying that you're a crappy employee, because you make widgets and your company decided it's no longer going to make widgets.

Bold move

Maybe KUFO wont suck now. Emerson, Court & Fatboy provided juvenile humor. They were very repetitive and became annoying. They should just play music, screw shows. They should just rock and quit playing shows and repetitive music (I dont think i needed to hear King's of Leon "need somebody", 60 times a day).

Fine with the audience. We

Fine with the audience. We only tuned in to KUFO to listen to Emerson and C&FB. We can get music anywhere and don't look to the radio to provide it (what decade are you living in?!). As long as we have our talk show, we don't really give a damn what you listen to. Have at it.

And seriously? Juvenile humor? Were you even listening to the same show? Hope you enjoy the racist moronic crap morning show that is coming on Wednesday morning to KUFO.

Court and Fatboy made the people of portland seem like a bunch of [?]s and nerds. I would perfer to have no talk shows. lets just hear some music. and hey a$$hole im sorry i listen to radio for music...i cant afford an ipod or whatever, so f*ck off.

im sure kufo will still have the same amount of listeners, there station wont be hurt by this move.

tune in at 7am?

7am is way too early for me to be awake. How much of KUFO's old demographic is like me? The suspense isn't killing me.

I will tune in around 915 to see if, by some miracle, Rick still has his old time slot. If not, K.U.F.O. can K.I.S.S. my A.R.S.E..

Put the RES back on am... Lunch hasn't been the same since they moved.

In case people don't notice the updates, read the first full interview with Cort and Fatboy since they were fired, and how the changes at the station are designed to "put hair back on KUFO's chest."

Boy, there seems to be a lot

Boy, there seems to be a lot of hostility over what is or is not played on KUFO. I enjoy the music played on this station, and thats all! If you guys want good talk and information, turn to the BEST radio station on the Portland dial for that. Its called OPB. As long as they dont change the music, I'll still listen while I gripe about the dj's and commercials.

Your rating: None

For that matter, OPB does

For that matter, OPB does music the best, too, and also on the radio-- an HD radio. 91.5 FM2 is opbmusic and it's the only thing going that SOUNDS like Portland. Also online (like everyone else): opbmusic.org.

We didn't listen to KUFO for

We didn't listen to KUFO for the music. We listened to KUFO for the Rick Emerson Show. The Rick Emerson Show is not a music show. It's a talk show. We've been listening to it for the past ten years. We don't give a damn if it's on KUFO or KCMD or KOTK or MAX910 or KTLK or some other station. We just want to listen to our talk show. You can have your music (seriously, you listen to music on the radio in 2009?!) for all anyone cares. KUFO was just a method for delivering the talk shows we enjoyed listening to. We don't really give a damn what station that's from and the only reason we're wasting our breath on KUFO at the moment is that they poached the Rick Emerson Show from KCMD knowing full well they'd likely be axing them a short time later.

Seriosly, I tried to listen

Seriosly, I tried to listen to the Rick Emerson Show. I was disappointed when Adam Corrolla got cancelled as I really enjoyed him. I'm not Knocking RES, but I found it boring and annoying. Thats just my opinion. It seems that he has enough of a following, that he'll show up somwhere else, possibly more suited to his audience.

The nerve of some people

Some people worry that KUFO won't be worth listening to anymore. KUFO hasn't been worth listening to for at least a decade. N00bs.

Your rating: None

Well I for one hope they

Well I for one hope they decide to make this a real rock station. Like, without classic rock at all. KGON and the Brew already do that. No more Led Zep and Pink Floyd or the Eagles on another damn station. And maybe no Nirvana or Pearl Jam, since every other station in town except the country stations play them. My girlfriend heard Pearl Jam on THE BUZZ the other day. We don't need another station playing those bands every 10 minutes.I'd like to hear local music too,. You never get that on the radio here, which is crazy because there are so many great local bands. Why play the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the billionth time when we have The Thermals and many others?

If they built a rock station with local and smart voice talents, I'd give it a chance. I hope they give Ricker a local sidekick at least, and if Marconi's coming back, that's great. I also still think Tara would be a great addition. When was the last time a chick had her own show on that station, where she wasn't the second fiddle to some guy? (Yes, I have a crush on Tara. Any warm blooded male mammal would. )But I also think for KUFO to be anything decent they need to make sure they have enough local people. Same goes for their other stations. Isn't the morning show gone now from the country station? Why isn't anyone complaining about that? As long as they get people better than those robot morons on NRK they might be fine.

AWESOME

It's great. If you don't like it, don't listen. That's all I have to say.

Is it going to matter?

KUFO hasn't been a rock station in a long time. For too long, it has been an occasional music station with near constant prattling of cheap, wannabe Howard Stern impersonators 24/7. If I want to listen to Stern, I'll get satellite- I f I want to listen to an A-hole, I'll fart.
I didn't mind Rick Emerson, C&FB were only mildly annoying, but if I want to hear talk. I'll turn on OPB. I hope Emerson lands a new gig somewhere, but I'm not going to go out of my way to find him. From the sounds of the new "talent", I may just delete 101 from my radio presets, especially if the current stunt is any indication of the quality of programming we are to expect from the new KUFO

Curious Baby Boomer

At 54, I'm probably outside KUFO's target demographic, which is just as well because I don't listen to it. I am not in the business either; I am just somebody who follows this site because I love keeping up with media news. That said, all of this stunting talk and the video has picqued my interest enough to a) have shared this with friends, b) posted the video on my FB page, and c) am anxiously looking for Wednesday morning to tune in to see what the new format change is all about. And then I'll go back to "my world" of 60s and 70s stations on XM. LOL.

temporarily banded

Can you say suit, attorney, Law Suit... The station is being SUED up the yang and that is the only thing that makes changes in any stations line up in any form or fashion no mater how you dice it or slice it. I suspect that the FCC temporarily banded KUFO from broadcasting for commercial or entertainment over the air and this is why you are hearing a count down in time. Something very resent sparked a very serious FCC violation. Think about it if you were a business and a marketing rep called on you and explained this to you; are you going to spend your money buying air time just hear a count down in time on the radio? NO?... maybe there is hope for you after all.

most annoying thing ever

I often scroll through the stations looking for a few good songs on my way to and from work. Last evening I happened upon KUFO. At first I thought it was just a short clip and I kept waiting for it to end. After a few minutes, I realized it wasn't ending and I started to get p*ssed. It was so obnoxious and so NOT entertaining. Whoever thought that it would be cool to air this stupid idea of theirs to kill some airtime should be sh*t-canned. If it is not art, not music, not a commercial, not funny, not informative, etc. that what is it doing on the air? I am getting p*ssed again just thinking about that stupid effing voice.

KUFO

so to me the downfall was when cbs cut adam corralla. that is when i walked from kufo, so this is what i make of it and ya i do not think you hard core kufo listeners are going to like what i am about to say. these little one liners from nate kingcole to the beattles are segments of what is to come. that is a pre-curser of the intention and it is a wise move. let me explain for all the hard core iron maiden punk ass rockers out there who do not listen to things such as garth brooks please raise your hand. at onetime or another you have listened and song along to low places or some version of that media. therefore those who are close minded rockers that only listen to hard core music i am sorry to tell you but yes you are not in the medium bracket and are fazing out :( sorry. there fore your new radio station will have its hard rock and its mellow side. wow its charlie folks just on 101. just what we need. as again I like my hard core rock and my mellow soul music and jazz. kufo self destructed and the little one liners is only the beginning. last but not least if I am wrong and i could be maybe it will just be a buttrock station...

I can't believe all the hate fill remarks I have read about the new KUFO air staff. Mabe ya'll don't like their schtick. But to wish death and illness is a bit excessive.Did ya'll ever stop to consider that mabe some of the new staff took these new jobs because they had been fired from their previous jobs and they had families to feed?Entertainment business of any kind is a tough gig.Sure it sucks to lose jocks that you like. But damn listen if you want turn it if you don't.But what kind of people wish the kind of hate filled nastiness that I have seen,on people that they don't even know.People that are just trying to make abuck like all of you.I'm just saying. Is this the kind of people that live in Portland? If so I 'm not so impressed

I have to say this really

I have to say this really blows! I really liked Rick Emerson, and for the most part, the music was pretty good. They did tend to over play Collective Soul and Kings of Leon. Well any way, if you like Modern Rock with some balls, try 97.9 KNRQ out of Eugene. They have a website too; http://nrq.com/. I can get it pretty well all the way up to Woodburn, so I don't know if Portland can pick it up or not. Won't listen to KUFO anymore...

i live in seattle and listened to ricker i checked this site to see if ricker was really going to portland but do not see anything conclusive. they were actually talking about california more but if you do get ricker as a morning host he is by far one of the best in the city of seattle and will dominate the smaller city of portland with the people he knows in the business he is not racist and is funnier then hell it might take a little bit to get use to but once you do you will be hooked by the big broski himself.

I also switched to NPR when Adam Carolla left KUFO. I haven't listened to anything else in the morning (other than occasional podcasts that I download and the John Stewart show on my Vcast phone). Had Adam not been cancelled, I wouldn't be enjoying what I am now listening to in the mornings. There is always something else to listen to.

Butthurt anyone?

you guys all sound like you are all a little butthurt? being from Seattle, and traveling to Portland on a regular basis for Buisness, I can say that this WILL be an improvement over the boring and over rated personality you guys at KUFO had before. I am not a guy that listens to CD's very often I like the compaionship of radio, especally on long trips, but I would alway dread the time, usually between Castle Rock and Longview, when KISW just wasn't within range anymore, and I knew that KUFO was my only "good" option, most of the time it would force me to CD's untill the same point on my northern trip, where I would despratly strain to hear "The Rock of Seattle." More recently I discovered a program for my phone that allows me to stream KISW over my phone, then plug the headphone jack into the Ipod input on my stereo, Ahhhhh.....no need for KUFO anymore.......

Give Ricker and the new on air personality a chance, Love them or hate them, I am confident that you'll find yourself tuning in every day.

BTW, keep your "you're wrong, Dur Dur DERP" BS to yourself, I am not comming back to read comments, nor am I receiving e-mail updates.

Actually what I have is a 44 magnum I-pod. It fires music of a deadly nature. Only rockers can tolerate the powerful soothing vibes that bring them into loving harmony with the rock nature of rockdom and concert filled life. they become the mellow partiers of Portland KUFO land. The rock gods show mercy upon them. Free concert tickets will befall them. They will meet others of their kind and make party, friendship, and love. They shall conquer the PDX area with their aggressive rockin' nature.
Now if you are a faker, or poser the 44 music shot will enter you and begin to dissasemble your synapses. Your body and brain will spasam and twitch You will hear your spinal column crack and break, you will hear your bones breaak and shatter Pain is your only friend. You will ask for mercy upon your soul-begging for an end to this evil grinding of body and soul Foam will exit your mouth until you are nothing but a quivering pile of goo! So KUFO DJ's you better do good or I will be visiting you and test you out with my I-pod. Psycho Rocker
