Xfinity: Comcastic from Portland to Eugene

XfinityIn eight days, over half a million Oregon and Southwest Washington residents will be subscribers to something they've never heard of before: Xfinity. Comcast's residential television, internet and voice products will bear that new name in eleven markets, including Portland and the entire stretch of service from Longview, Washington to Eugene. The rest of the country will make the switch over the coming year.

Portland was the first market where Comcast converted to digital service, and the Xfinity name is intended to communicate that difference and more, said Comcast CEO Brian Roberts on yesterday's earnings call. "I think we are giving a better and better service experience," he said.

The renaming also introduces a new brand between consumers and Comcast, with Comcast remaining the name at the top of customers' bills. Comcast's beleaguered brand placed second in Consumerist's Worst Company in America surveys in 2008 and 2009, surpassed only by economic disasters AIG and Countrywide Financial, which have also rebranded. Comcast didn't mention any negative associations with its brand in its earnings call.

The Xfinity name will also be added to Fancast, the company's online video service. Comcast customers will retain their existing comcast.net email addresses.

Death to Concast

It means that, like Blackwater, Concast is ashamed of their corporate history and instead of cleaning up their act they just change their name to Xe -er- Eksfinity or something stupid like that.

All I ask of Concast is please, just die already. Sell your assets to local companies, then kill yourselves personally. You have been a plague on the landscape for far too long. Die dead and disappear.

Another case of Corporate

Another case of Corporate America unable, or unwilling, to admit they just don't get it. Shuffling chairs on the Titanic must be a standard business practice these days. Perhaps it's part of the standard coursework for obtaining an MBA?

OK, I have to ask

How do you come in third behind AIG and Countrywide?

Oops

I meant, how do you come in *second* behind AIG and Countrywide. Oh, never mind.

I think I get the question.

Comcast was second behind AIG in 2009 and second behind Countrywide in 2008.

Vanity Name Change

Some consultant sold them a bill of goods. Happens all the time in TV. And they probably had too much money going to the bottom line so they decided to waste a few million on a name change.. Its like Madonna changing her name to Lady GaGa

Comcast

Not sure why everyone is so negative regarding Comcast. I have been a customer for over 8 years and have enjoyed good products, excellent customer service & well trained, compent installation techs. I have all 3 services: T/V, Internet & Phone and am very satisifed with all of them

Comcast is a Business

While there are many people who are concerned with the performance of Comcast, it is importantr to remember that they are a business. If customer service wasn't important for a Brand in today's world, particualrly for a media distributor, then your complaints would fall on deaf ears. Their motivation is to make MONEY through a series of products, not to really care if you have a hard time on the phone with someone. You must understand that there are fewer reasons to care about the consumer than there are about the payments you owe them.

That's fine

That's fine. If they don't have an incentive to care about me as a customer, then i won't have an incentive to owe them any money. There are still tv, internet, and phone companies that do care about their consumers, because they see the direct correlation between good customer service and getting paid.

More garbage from Comcast

I am quite Leary of any corporate name change. Usually it is done only to conceal the huge amount of CR*P that comes from their hq. When they think we have figured what little game they are playing they run for the name change. DON'T give us a name change, give us those local channels you refuse to put on because they are a competitive threat to you to sell commercials.

Ben Dover is Right!!!!

Spot on, Ben. But do not think for 1 minute Comcast will give the people what they want. And that's a shame. Say, Ben Dover, do you have a sister named Eileen? Ben, keep in mind a name change is cheaper than giving us good service or the local channels we request. I'd love to have a good cable and internet provider. Until then I'm stuck with ComXfinityCast.
