Chamber employee earns development certification | News, Sports, Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN — Shea MacMillan, manager of business development for the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber, has earned an Ohio Certified Economic Developer credential through the Ohio Economic Development Institute.

According to the association, the credential demonstrates the “depth and breadth” of a person’s knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge to benefit their community or organization. It also represents the person’s commitment to advancing the Ohio economy and the economic development profession.

Over the past two years, MacMillan completed the basic economic development course, as well as training related to real estate development, site selection and development, finance and incentives and business retention and expansion.

The training concluded with a yearlong capstone project, presentation and exam.

MacMillan’s capstone project was an analysis of the railroad infrastructure in the Mahoning Valley. He examined the active lines and then sought to develop a comprehensive list of industrial sites, buildings and businesses that have access to the railways.

The goal was to produce a resource that helps maintain the local railroad infrastructure and support the businesses that rely on it, as well as generating new rail usage and identifying the necessary upgrades, according to the chamber.
