Forum: Kathy Randall Passed Away Yesterday...

Kathy Randall who became Kathy Cullis when she married Rick in 1997 passed away Monday night after a three year battle with cancer.

Kathy was my first co-anchor when I landed at KMTR in Eugene back in 1988 and knew immediately how lucky I was to anchor next to her. She could be demanding but was an absolute professional and I'll gladly admit she carried the entire team. I first saw Kathy years earlier when she was anchoring for KOMO in Seattle and I was still in college. She also anchored for KOLD in Tucson, KEZI in Eugene, KFXO in Bend and several radio gigs. Also was a member of the Screen Actor's Guild and appeared in film and television roles.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and she played lots of practical jokes on me and everyone else that could handle a dash of mischief. I'm saddest of all for Rick because (as I understand it) he loved her for years before they started dating and was deeply devoted to her until the very end.

If you knew her you might send your condolences to rkcullisatprinetime [dot] net.

Kathy Randall Cullis

I first met Kathy when I moved to Kailua Kona Hawaii in 2001. In September of that year I was honored to share the stage with Kathy at The Aloha Performing Arts Company production of The Night of The Iguana. Kathy delivered a powerful portrayal as Hannah. A consummate professional, a radiant beauty, and a power house full of energy. She carried herself with dignity and grace and was always there for her fellow man. She is definitely one of the most talented women I have met on stage and a compassionate gentle human being who's laughter was like sunshine. Aloha Oe, sweet Kathy. You will be missed.

So sad.

I can't believe Kathy is gone. My heart goes out to Rick and all of her family and friends.
Kathy was the main anchor at KMTR when I started there as a newbie weekend anchor. She opened her home to me, took me under her wing and gave me lots of advice.
I'm sure she fought cancer as gracefully and powerfully as she lived her life.
What a loss.

Always a professional

Aloha oe, Kathy! She graced the Original Play Festival performance of 'Love in the Key of Tender' a romantic comedy in which her character, Shirley, dies in a traffic accident and returns as a spirit to care for her husband's well being. I found myself losing my place during rehearsals because she was just so compelling to watch perform. My world is a little smaller now knowing that she's gone; she made it a lot bigger by being a part of it.

KATHY RANDALL PASSED AWY YESTERDAY...

My heart goes out to Kathy's family and close friends.
Kathy was my female anchor for my first weathercast at KOLD-TV in Tucson in 1981. After my first appearance (5:00 News), I thought I was so horrible that they wouldn't want me back for the 10:00...and I didn't even want to come back. But Kathy took me by the scruff of the neck and took me down to the film room to view the playback. She claimed that I had done a credible job for my first time and she wanted me to see it. Lo & behold, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought...and I realized, at that moment, that I could do this job. Kathy....I will always be grateful for what you did for me, only because you saw a person in distress & cared.
RIP,

Farewell, Kathy...

Saw the news this evening on KMTR. My prayers go out to Kathy and her family. It was a pleasure knowing her as a neighbor, and later as a colleague on KMTR's "Oregon at Five." She had a great sense of humor and touched a lot of people over the course of her life.

Kathy Randall's farewell "performance"

Kathy's husband Rick is organizing a "traveling show" where friends and colleagues can gather to remember Kathy; just an informal event, Jan. 23 at noon, at the Stockpot Restaurant in Beaverton (off Hwy 217; easy to mapblast). We're taking a food count, so if anyone would like to attend, please let her friend Shannon know, at spriemathotmail [dot] com or shannon [dot] priematsalemhospital [dot] org

Goodbye Old Friend

I remember working a night shift at KMTR....We did a lot of school board meetings at the time. It was boring so we started playing hangman with words that weren't appropriate for the meeting. We started to giggle then burst with a laugh when we found out the word....they stopped the meeting to ask us if we had a problem...Busted.
Kathy was a wonderful person and I enjoyed her very much. Her an Al losing it on the set was the best!
I will miss you Kathy. And to her family all my best wishes.

A Deep Bow to Eliza Doolittle

I know Kathy from South Salem High School where we were in choir and drama together. I had the honor and privilege of playing Higgins to her Eliza in our production of My Fair Lady. She was a serious actress even then and I'm sorry I missed her many star performances in the years following. Things I'll always remember is the fire in her eyes and the way she would laugh!

To Liza - may your laughter, singing and dancing continue in heaven.
