Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, is set to make a virtual Arizona appearance Saturday as presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign ramps up a presence in the battleground.

Harris is scheduled to make a virtual trip at 1:15 p.m. with a roundtable conversation with Latino small business owners, a key constituency that Democrats and Republicans are courting. The appearance will be open to the media, according to the Biden-Harris campaign.

The Harris appearance comes as the general election enters its final stretch with Arizona’s 11 electoral votes up for grabs.

Biden has not made an appearance in the state but said last month he was planning to visit Arizona, and other battleground states, after Labor Day. Details of those plans remain unclear.

In 2016, Trump won Arizona over Democrat Hillary Clinton by 3.5 percentage points.

Polling on the race nationally and in Arizona suggests Biden carries a lead.

In Arizona, an average of presidential general election polls has Biden ahead by 5.1 percentage points.

Democrats are hoping that Harris, the first Black woman and first South Asian on a major party ticket, will help energize people of color, particularly in competitive states such as Arizona. In recent days, Harris has made in-person and virtual appearances in Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Minnesota.
