We’re hiring editors for fall 2022. Check out the listings below for more infomration on what positions are open and how to apply. Applications are due by the end of the day on Friday, May 13.

News
News Editors assign and edit articles every week for the news section. To apply, please send a statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) and a writing sample (1-2 pages) to Senior News Editor Brinlea La Barge ([email protected]). 

Local
Local Editors brainstorm and assign articles about what goes on in the town of Middlebury (and around Vermont!), correspond with writers, and edit the finished pieces to be published in our weekly newspaper. To apply, please send a statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) and a writing sample (most likely, an article you’ve written for The Campus) to Senior Local Editor Becca Amen ([email protected]).

Arts & Culture
Arts & Culture Editors solicit weekly articles from writers to be submitted on Sunday. Editors are responsible for helping communicate with writers and edit their articles by Monday night. Editors also meet with writers on Monday nights to communicate feedback and discuss edits. To apply, please send a statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) as well as a writing sample (if not currently a writer for The Campus) to Senior Arts & Culture Editor Owen Mason-Hill ([email protected]).

Opinion
Opinions Editors participate in Editorial Board discussions, help draft the weekly editorial on behalf of the Editorial Board, and solicit and edit op-eds from the Middlebury community. To apply, please send a statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) to Senior Opinions Editor Daleelah Saleh ([email protected]).

Sports
Sports Editors edit articles for the sports section of our weekly publication and come up with story ideas about Middlebury teams/athletes/alumni. Experience with editing or journalistic writing is helpful but not required. If interested in applying, please email a brief statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) to incoming Senior Sports Editor Charles Crounse ([email protected]).

Online
Online Editors will publish articles, videos, advertisements, and other media to our website, with an eye for accuracy and stylistic consistency. Online Editors will also get to influence the appearance and operation of our website, with the opportunity to advance into the Digital Director position in the future. Experience with WordPress or similar platforms is helpful but not required. Interested applicants should email a brief statement of interest to Digital Director Emmanuel Tamrat ([email protected]).

Copy Editor
Copy Editors provide the final read on articles to search for grammatical errors and style mistakes. A familiarity with AP Style is helpful but not required. To apply, please send a statement of interest outlining your experience (1-2 paragraphs) to Managing Editor Abigail Chang ([email protected]).

Layout Editor

Layout Editors design the pages of The Campus in Adobe InDesign for our weekly newspaper. Experience with InDesign is helpful but not required. To apply, please send a statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) and optional design work samples to Design Director Olivia Kilborn ([email protected]).

Business Manager

The Business Manager creates and handles the budget of The Campus, works with businesses to sell advertisements for the newspaper and handles subscriptions. Experience overseeing organization budgets is helpful but not required.
